Carol's Training Experience
Oct 2023
The Power Futures Lab UCT Graduate School of Business
Carol had the privilege of attending a transformative course offered by The Power Futures Lab, a beacon of excellence at UCT GSB. The training discussed the ongoing efforts to transform power markets by reforming, unbundling, and increasing access to clean technologies.
Despite these transformations, a significant portion of the population still lacks electricity access, posing a major challenge. Corporate renewable energy Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) show promise in addressing supply gaps, but sustainable reform requires effective regulation and a strengthened regulator. The training emphasized the importance of robust governance and regulation structures in achieving a balance between resource allocation and consumer protection.
Additionally, the integration of renewables was explored as both a challenge and an opportunity for innovation in technology, business, and market models. Carol gained valuable insights from the training, motivating her to contribute positively to the energy sector.
