About Carol

Carol Ofafa is the founder and CEO of E-Safiri, a clean electric mobility company operating solar-powered battery swap hubs across Kisumu, Homa Bay and the Lake Victoria region in Kenya. Through this hub network, E-Safiri powers EV 2 & 3-wheelers for riders and communities, driving productive use of clean energy and creating opportunity for women and youth across Africa. To date, E-Safiri has created 400+ direct and indirect jobs, powered 1.6 million kilometres of clean electric travel, and helped avoid an estimated 90 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.

She spent nearly a decade as an Electrical and Electronic Engineer at Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), supervising the Ethiopia-Kenya HVDC converter station and leading design, testing, and construction supervision on transmission and substation projects worth over $1 billion, including the Suswa-Isinya 400kV and Kindaruma-Mwingi-Garissa 132kV lines. She also researched energy-access partnerships at the European University Institute's African School of Regulation (ASR), launched with EUI, UCT, PAUWES, Enel Foundation, RMI and TENN. In 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded her Kenya's highest civilian honour, the Head of State Commendation, for her transmission line work, mentorship of women in energy and early electric mobility charging designs.
